500 exhaust system
Discussion
My 98 500 exhaust was sleeved at the request of a previous owner to make it louder, rather pointless exercise in my opinion but each to his own. It now seems that something inside the box has become detached and is rattling about, which could well explain the running hot and power loss.
To come to the point :- Any advice on a replacement system ? I see ACT do one, anybody have experience of that or any others, do and have a performance advantage, do they fit etc.
The other option is to cut the box open again and repair what ever has come loose.

Hi Steve,
I've been in touch with an exhaust specialist to get the noise down on my noisy Griff. The guys suggested to repack the silincer instead of full replacement. He explained the exhaust was made of stainless 409 already so no benefit by replacing the exhaust. This gets done next week. Would suggest bringing it to an exhaust guy to check pricing before you choose the more expensive ACT option.

Is your system original ? I am not convinced mine is stainless, it looks more like mild.
Opening up the boxes and repairing the insides was my first thought. In fact I was talking with a chap who prepares E types and routinely makes his own systems. He has a supply of various grades of perforated tube. However on closer inspection I doubt that any of the pipe sections other than the tail pipes are stainless. The box could well be. I know 403 will rust but looking at the pipe sections between the box and tail pipes I am not convinced it is anything other than mild.
