In the last two weeks whilst blatting about I've experienced momentary low pressure ie not registered on guage and the oil light coming on. This rectifies its self by either letting revs die to tick over and then a few secs everything is ok... or by a blip of the throttle.

It does this after a quick squirt from the lights say in 1st or 2nd...

should i be worried or a loss wiring connection ????

I'm not a techy so please keep simple

cheers

The warning light and the gauge on later cars are different sensors. If this is the case on your then suspect a bigger problem.

On earlier cars they were a single unit apparently and therefore it may just be the wiring/sensor.

Either way, check it out ...

I know ETB do one of these dual sensor/switches but I believe they still work as 2 separately functioning units (just packaging really I guess). I'd never heard of them being fitted to TVR's? or do you mean the warning light in the speedo?

OP: do you mean the oil warning light flashes & at the same time the gauge zeros?? If so likely you have blocked or loose pick up / crap oil / knackered filter or worst case marginally foobarred oil pump. Dropping the sump to check the pick up & doing an oil change should cover most of the problems ~ it may be worth checking the oil pressure relief valve is not sticking at the same time. None of this is very expensive compared to mincing your engine, even if you have to go to plan B and replace the oil pump internals wink

I do not know on the earlier cars, but a previous thread someone said they were a dual unit. My experience is they are seperate as a back up, although the warning light does not come on until 5-8psi which is very low.

By "momentory low press, not reg on gauge" do you mean the gauge goes to zero for a second, or do you mean the light comes on for a second, then goes off, but the gauge still reads normal?

My '92 pre cat has a different sensor for the gauge and light.

IF yours is the same, and you have the former, then do as spend sais ( or get the garage to do it for you ). If the latter, then it is probably just the sensor for the light.

However, you MUST get it checked out either way, as driving on low oil pressure WILL give you a big bill if you lunch the engine.

Both guages and light work together so I suspect a bit more then a dodgy connection..... will be chatting with garage local to work today..... not an indie, but trusted mechanic who understand RV8's

Hi,
oil pressure falling away and oil light coming on after "squirting away from the lights". I had these symptoms once before (not in a TVR), pressure dropped away on the gauge and oil light flickering when going hard around corners. Low oil level!! obviously oil surging away from pick up and pump momenterily drawing air.
