It depends how loud you want to go. I sleaved mine.(replace perforated tubes in the box for staight tubes) It liberates the full V8 sound with gurgling on the over run. If you want louder still, remove pre cats and main Cat.

DeCat pipes from ACT and cherry bomb conversion from Offord's should do the trick

I had the chim sleeved at topcats racing. Un bloody believable sound now. measured at 121 db at revs with lots of pops and crackles on the over run.

Cheers guys will try to get some sound checks before I go mad,I use to have a stag with rover V8 and fitted holley carb and straight through pipes with cherry bombs, one pipe either side as grif, looked great but was so loud actually driving it made you feel sick cos of the resonance.....
Mark are you local to me if so check the sunday meet as mentioned above

When I had the pipes sleeved I got them to put the wadding back in the silencer box to help reduce the resonance. I find that I get resonance in the form of a kind of hum (hard to describe) at 2000 rpm, otherwise its fine. Resonance isnt enought to really bother apart from being slightly annoying. Good excuse to keep >2500 rpm .

I am told that the ACT sports exhaust doesnt suffer this resonance but then it is about 4x the cost...

If you want Asbo Loud then you need to remove the precats and the main cat then add a very shiny V8 Enhancements cat replacement pipe and join that to a J&P super sports exhaust with a Very Wild V8 Developments RJJP 1 cam = 126.4 DB at 4000rpm smile

I thank you bowtie

Need to be careful when doing a 'home-made' job that you don't remove too much back pressure - the RV8 likes a bit of back pressure. ACT do a great cherry bomb system with either two or four tailpipes.

It's not all about volume mate ... quality is what counts. This is a poor qulality recording, but sounds great. (IMHO tongue out)

if you want fast and loud...look here

http://www.tvrmonster.co.uk/videos.html

a std 500 runs about 98db, sports zorts can take this to around 108ish.

full decats with sportszorts will hit 115 or so

a full thru pipe system ran 128db (on mine) and the loudest I've heard of is 129db on a wedge which was basically the same.

personally I didn't like the 128 sound. it was harsh. the best is around 112, on a decatted angine with a sportszorst with a little wadding in there to round off the sound.

bit like mine is now! smile

andy
problem with loud is that you can't get on a Track anywhere (except Spa) which is why mine had to go.
