I've read that obtaining a PAS rack is very difficult and ask why. Is it a bespoke one for the Griff and not just any old rack from e.g. a Vaux? Can later models, e.g. Tuscan ones be used. I'm just trying to see if a conversion to PAS is feasible part wise and cost wise.

There Bespoke, just sent mine away from re-furb which is about £130. I think New (if theres any about ) the prices are around £700. or you could try a breaker Griffith and Chimaera is the same.

Not sure about the newer models being the same but would be interested if anyone knows also

The question we should be asking is who made them for TVR. I can't see them having done it themselves.

If the reconditioning parts are available that takes care of most of the insides.

Once we find who made them perhaps we could get a batch made.

People are forever asking about converting to PAS, There's a market there.

B.B's about right on prices, I still have a bill for mine and they were about that five years ago.

New ones would need to be able to bolt to the chassis and be the right length before looking at pipework.

I doubt there is anything special about the rack, and bits are readily available. But the combination is the key ...

You got it back yet Simon ?

Not not back yet, although no rush as having a clean up down on the chassis with that out and the y piece, also awaiting some stainless coolant pipes from Tim. Although its bloody sunny today and would love to go out for a blat and gonna miss the run out from Bedford tomorrow because of this( although I'm on call aswell) .

I am surprised no one knows who made them? I think I am right in thinking they had a few parts made in Spain? maybe this was one of them?

The company that made them went bust during TVR's financial problems, not sure how much af that was due to the factory not paying bills...Which is why we can't get new ones.
I Will ask Neil and TVRCarparts on monday as I am down there if he knows what the company name was, maybe we can track down blueprints/moulds or something.
I would have thought a production run of a 100 or so would sell very quickly as it fits the Griff, Chim & Tuscan racers.

Can somebody confirm if the Ford Siera Cosworth steering rack fit's a Griffith? There must be a rack in production which will fit. Seems to be interest from several people for this item, therefore this PAS mystery has to be resolved!! Unfortunately I don't have the answers. Any help would be great. Bastian

Nope doesn't fit. I have one and totally different.

The rack is reputed to be based on a Chevette and is effectively a TVR only part. As for making a production run... the racks can be overhauled so the only real interest in new ones would be for PAS conversions. PAS racks are available from scrappies but are expensive but the way I see it, their cost is about what a new one would be. Not totally convinced on the viability of getting 100 made. Big investment for someone for potentially little market.
