I got very concerned about it, until I thought that if the oil were that low, I should have heard the tappets clattering away!

I bought an emergency litre of oil in Halfrauds as I was passing, and the car was very sluggish to start.

It seems that the oil pressure lamp is actually the altenator warning lamp. Damn these wiring faults!! wink

So - which side of a 500 speedo (I don't have the LEDs in the dash) is the oil pressure warning lamp and which side is the altenator warning?? Thanks!

The simplest way to tell them apart is to identify all the lights that come on with the ignition. You can identify the handbrake / brake warning lights easily because they go off with the handbrake. That should leave no charge warning and low oil pressure warning lights. They should both go out when you start the engine. If you rev up and switch off the ignition, the low oil pressure light will stay off as the engine spins down and stops. The no charge warning light will usually glow as the engine spins down and then go out as it stops.

You can pull the spade terminal (exciter/charge light) off the alternator & the light will go out wink Surprised a man of your calibre had never checked the warning lights never mind figured it out...

You miss the point - I know the 100A fuse is blown and that the lamps are miswired (or the plastic gels inside the speedo are on the wrong lamps.)

All I wanted to know was which side the orange lamp is suppposed to be and which side the red lamp is supposed to be so that I can figure out if it's the speedo assembled incorrectly or if I rewired the engine sensor connector incorrectly...

I have an oil leak from the valley gasket. I don't like to be without a spare litre of oil in the car.

The concern I showed lasted all of 16 revolutions of the engine (at idle).

Does this help?
