From cars I have looked at some have damage to the aluminium heat shields near the exhaust manifolds. Are these replacable, how much does it cost and is it a DIY job without the need to remove major items e.g. manifolds

You don't want to buy one of those, its odds on they had fat owners who were continually cooking snacks on the heat shields - the seats will probably be broken & the fibre glass floorpan over stressed!

The correct heatshield material was available from TVRparts for 14 pounds a metre. I replaced both my heatshields using half a metre. I did it when the manifolds were off but I think it can be done with the manifolds insitu. I used the old ones as templates and used spray adhesive to glue a hem round the outside before riveting back in place.
