My L reg Griff 500, I thought I would trace the MIL light wire (see my other post) to check it was connected. My battery has a nice fibre-glass box, and the ecu has always been just loose on the floor, so i thought i would bolt it to the fibre-glass kick panel.

So i mounted the ecu using its flanges to the kick panel and rerouted the loom as required to plug back on. All this was done without the power on (the Griff has a race style cutout making disconneciton of battery easy).

Pleased with my work, I thought I'd best fire it up, and now it doesn't start !

Fuel pump whirs as usual, engine turns, rpm needle lifts a few hundred rpm but no firing at all.

Thinking a wire must have come loose during my work, i opened the ecu connector and all seemed to be in order, and i could find nothing else lose - so whats happened ?

If the alarm was immobilising it, am i right in thinking the fuel pump wouldn't whir ?

It seems from the injection manual I have, that the engine would start without a multitude of things it should have (lamdas, throttle pot, stepper etc) so it must be something critical adrift somewhere.

Any ideas much appreciated, insurance is due and I'd like it at least running before I shell out !

My L reg primes the fuel pump even when the immobiliser has not been disabled. So it could be the alarm - might also be worth checking the other relay in the passenger footwell.

Have you tried swapping the 2 siler relays in the passenger footwell, the loose ones dangling around - one is fuel pump and it may be a faulty relay coming to the end if its life.

Found the problem at last - not related to bolting the ecu to the panel at all - just bizarre coincidence. Corroded connector running from coil -ve to ecu, not passing the timing signal so no injector action.

Sorted in the end.
