Just looking through the papers for the grif and noticed that the engine number starts 37aXXXXXXX, from memory i thought that 37a is a chimaera engine number not grif, all paperwork matches engine serial number plates, car is all original and unmolested as far as I know.Is this an error or did they just randomly select the engines from a pile at the factory???

If your car feels slow then its probably a chimp engine wink

Seriously, I had chat with the archives section at Gaydon Heritage centre a while back.

IIRC that's Rover code for a crate engine supplied to another car manufacturer, mostly TVR and Morgan.

Gaydon don't have much details on these.

Some are 37A and some 47A in a Griff. Most i've come across(not too many)have been 47A.i dont think this part of the no. was specific to a model type at all,and would be surprised if any part was?
