Yup. Two months ago I bought an Exide; don't remember the number (030, 031, something like that) but it's specified in the catalogue for the Griff. Cost me 84 quid which is a lot and no doubt due to the fact it came from Motor World.

However, despite this battery having a lower specified crank rating than the Bosch Silver that it replaced, it has some kinda technology that boosts it's qouted by something like 20% - dunno, it was on the blurb that came with it. Whatever, it's spinning the 5.4 over far better than the Bosch ever managed with the old 5 litre. You'll also find that the posts are orientated correctly. The Bosch battery posts are reversed which meant jump starting was near impossible as they had to face forward to allow cable reach. The terminal cover would also need to be fitted to the opposite side. Both batteries fitted the box perfectly however with the Exide being slightly smaller. I'd pay the extra but, I'm sure you can find a better deal than I managed.

Varta type 096 Reverse was the biggest suitable CCA I could find, and its been abused for a few years now - but still tolerating my haphazard useage wink

096 here also, although not a reverse (I don't find this a problem). I used a Bosch Silver star 720CCA! Had to cut the plastic feet off to get it in the battery box but that was a 5 minute job. £60 from GSF.

Something like that David H. This is what I removed; it cost £53 from Europarts a couple of years back. This too came from the Bosch catalogue and spec'd for the Griff.

Finding the Exide replacement a better piece of kit though.

I know that we all knock Halfords from time to time and at first this doesn't sound like a glowing indictment but read on...

About 4 years ago I took my run down battery into Halfords and asked for a comparable replacement for my Griff. There looked through their selection and provided me with the appropriate battery. It worked perfectly for about 30 months, then as Winter wore on it became apparent it wasn't holding charge particularly well. So, I took it back with receipt in hand and they swapped it for an new one, without question and gave me a further 3 year guarantee!

I'm now hoping that this one only has about a year of life left in it wink

I have just fitted a Varta E12 680Amp battery with 5 year warranty. Battery posts are the correct way round (on my car leads were not long enough if posts were reversed). Feet at either side had to be trimmed to fit into battery box. Cranking speed is very reassuring compared to previous battery. I paid £58.75 but suspect true retail cost was slightly higher. When the battery is in its fibreglass box the clamping nuts are almost impossible to see. I drilled 2 18 mm holes through the front face of the box so nuts can be tightened with a socket. It worked for me.
