Yes, you have to remove the column to get the pedal box out. The master cylinder is from a MK 3 Fiesta and the clutch master cylinder is from a TR6. I replaced the clutch cylinder while the pedal box was out.

I used to have a TR6.

One of the master cylinders came from the 1750cc Austin Maxi.

Trouble is, I can't remember if it was the brake or clutch. I know it was a reverse application fitting. I mean that the cylinder was used for the clutch on one car, but the brake on the other.

Hello Green Meanie

Did this job on my '98 Griff about 18 months ago.

It's not difficult but neither is it a pleasant job. Ideal is to work with a good friend, that way you can take it in turns to be lying head down in the footwell.

I took the drivers seat out which made job much easier, and yes steering column needs to come out; make sure you mark UJ inside wheel arch when you do this.

I disconnected all the brake lines (and clutch if I'm not mistaken) inside footwell.

One thing you might have fun with afterwards is bleeding. I believe air gets stuck at end of master cylinder. To get round this I bled brakes with rear of car as high as possible then left overnight, with all bleed nipples closed and brake pedal depressed.

Job took about 4hrs out and 4 hours back, several cans of patience and a few beers.

Good luck!

Cheers

Philip
