Blanking plate John? Do you mean for where you've removed the stereo?

I made up a small ally box the same size as a stereo head unit, covered it insdie with black Fablon, and it makes a very handy place for small objects.

Aren't you just creating work for yourself? When you eventually sell the car, most people will want a radio/cd; having a radio is useful for listening to traffic/news on a longer journey; and you have to be ever so carefull with taking out the stereo, as the veneer chips or flakes too easily.

I've got a few completed Griffith (and Chimaera and Cerbera) dashboards, plus a few of the metal backing plates the veneer goes onto, but the holes have already been laser cut.

You could try talking to CliveF and see if he'll make you up a nice shiny plate with wings on the back which slots into the hole. Have it etched with Griffith or TVR or something

May not be quite what you are thinking of but I cut a 1mm fibreglass plate to fit over the hole. It is fixed in place with two ally bars with a tapped holes. You offer the plate up with the bars horizontal. Turn them on the fixing screws and then tighten. The plate is sprayed with a gloss car paint that is the closest match I could find to the carpet. Did the same thing with all four speaker holes. It looks OK but I have a stainless dash, may look a bit more out of place with the veneer one.

It's a brand name for sticky-backed plastic with a 'flock' finish - like the green baize you get on snooker tables, only in black. The box needed finishing with something as bare ally is very bare IMHO. I also included a small flange around the front edges so it seats nicely. If I sell the car, I just pull the box out and refit the stereo.

NB As you can see the all-terrain hoverpack I fitted is working well silly

My VW beetle and Vauxhall Cavalier both came with a removable black plastic stereo sized cubby hole, could be worth a trip to your local breakers yard or vw spareparts dealer.

I've got a snap-fit radio aperture cover out of a 1989 Mercedes 190E in mine. Fits perfectly.

Why not replace it with one of those slide-out LCD screen sat-nav systems? They make one to fit a starndard head unit-sized hole. Then get rid of the unsightly junk that everyone seems to have stuck to their windscreen these days.

"Fablon" indicates you are of the Valerie Singleton Blue Peter generation.

Because it will be stolen in about 0.1 seconds?

Actually I thought the giveaway was the phrase 'sticky-backed plastic', but yes, bullseye, and all the better for it smile
