What does the socket look like at the loom? I have read that early griffs don't have them, however, there is a white connector on the end of a few wires from the main loom resting on top of the battery box, is that it, or for something else?

I dont have a Griff, but far as I know all the 14CUX ecu's have a diagnostic port in the wiring loom. The earlier (pre griff) 14CU does not. If you want to be certain download the ecu manual here:

http://www.g33.co.uk/images/PDFS/14cux_fuel_inject...

and check the wire colours that go into the socket against the circuit diagram. The diagnostic plug is item 14.
