Before you say do a search the facility is down at the moment.

Trying to source a replacement nearside rear lens for a Griff 500. I'm told they are off of a Cavalier MK3. I have checked fleebay and there are a few on there but they seem a little different in that they have a bit of black on the top or bottom (depending on if it's in the Griff or the Cav).

Is it the right animal and it's just a case of removing the bit of rogue plastic?

No,these are different, and were fitted to later Cavs, the coloured lens is different also to the ones on the griff. If you need the untinted ones they usually come up often on e-bay,and can also be bought very cheap at breakers. The tinted ones are getting much harder to get hold of though,as they were only fitted to a few particular Cavs(GSI i think). These sometimes fetch around the £50 a pair mark on ph classifieds, and vary a fair bit on e-bay.

The Cavalier you want is G, H or J reg from memory with the smooth external finish as the later ones had some bumps on the outside of the lens making it easy to identify the ones you need. Mark 3 is the right one for clear lens, and the GSI are the smoked ones which are pretty rare - look at the reverse lamp if unsure or put a pic on here to confirm if clear or smoked.
If you can get the lens off a tatters (or e-bay through a breaker) ask if you can have the bulb holder and the connector with approx 6" of cable as spares. The bulb holders often break at the top and bottom where they fit into the lens units, or rust in the Griff boot. They are not likely to sell te bulb holder and connector for anything so you shouldn't pay any more but good spares. When I've got some they send all the bulbs too which is nice.
