Can anyone tell me how to remove an aftermarket Leven gearknob?

My 1996 Griff came with a few Leven dress-up bits, most of which I'm happy with, except for the gearknob which doesn't look anything like as good as the original aluminium ball. Fortunately the previous owner kept it but I can't work out how to remove the Leven item. I've tried unscrewing it using plenty of force but it won't budge and I'm reluctant to give it too much heave in case I damage the car.

Also, what year of Mondeo side repeaters should I ask for in my local Ford dealership? My car has colour-coded repeaters and I don't like those either.

I think you'll find that there's a collar underneath the gear knob that acts as a locking nut, so that needs loosening before you can loosen the knob.

I think the repeaters are actually Ford Fiesta Mk3 IIRC.

Good to see a Griffith being put back to normal!

IMHO they're pretty bog-standard Ford - I'd take one in and ask for one the same but in orange. Then eBay the old ones smile

When I fitted mine I screwed the collar on and then screwed the knob down onto it to lock it. To get it back off again I just uncrew the knob. Rotating the collar allows you to set the rotational postion so that the gear position engraving sits inline.

Colin.

I've got a pair of boggo orange side repeaters taken off the chim when i changed to clear side indicators. You can have them for nothing, just need someone to confirm that chim side repeaters will fit a griff.

Thanks for the offer. Just goes to prove you meet a better class of owner in a TVR.

Your Chimaera looks the same shade of blue as my Griff, as far as I can tell from the picture. Do you know what that shade's called? I have the paint code number for mine but the previous owner couldn't tell me its name.

Anyone want a pair of blue side repeaters, available once I get some orange ones?

Its imperial blue , but there are other blues that look similar. Imperial tends to look purple at dawn and dusk then blue in the sunshine.

PM me your address and I will go root around in the loft at the weekend for the parts

always happy to help if I have spare bits I dont need :-) If they dont fit keep them for when someone else might need them >

Did the indicators arrive yet ? My Mrs sent them out first class on thursday last week , but I'm guessing that with the christmas post they might take a while to arrive...

I'm looking for new mail each day – a bit like when I run through a speed camera and I'm not sure if I've been got – but no side repeaters yet. Christmas post!

The collar seems pretty damn tight up against the gearknob so before I attack it with a pair of mole grips/Stilson wrench/angle grinder, is that collar something that came with the Leven gearknob or would I be chewing up the original TVR part?

Unless you've got another collar you're going to need the one that's on it anyway. Wrap something like electrical tape around the collar and/or the molegrips to stop them marking the collar. Twist the knob in the opposite direction as you twist the collar to try and break the grip.

Thanks for the offer Podie but the original one came with the car so my only hassle is removing the replacement without damaging anything.
