Charging battery
Discussion
Not really as it is very close indeed to parts of the engine and the potential to short out the battery with disasterious results. For a battery charger with 6-8A charging use the cigarette lighter socket. Failing that the safest place is direct on the battery.

You can charge the battery by running wires of suitable gauge just about anywhere you want. Starting / jumping is a different matter. Starter or alt-fuse terminal post to the front undertray, and the earth under the rad connected to a suitable connector may be the most 'convenient' type of solution. I have them in the undertray, footwell & boot, and find them useful as test points as well
On the other-hand if you want to be able to jump start you will require nice big anderson connectors and battery gauge cables, available from places like VWP, Steve Heaths Pub & Demonic Tweaks..
