GRIFFITH STEERING RACK
Discussion
Just thought I would share the rather unpleasant experience I had today in my Griff 500. About half a mile away from home my speed about 35 mph warming up the engine, when for no apparent reason the car veered from one side of the road to the other, I managed to pull the car to a safe stand still and proceeded to investigate the problem. On turning the steering wheel one wheel turned the other stayed still. I lifted the bonnet to look down on the steering rack and to my amazement the driver's side link arm from the rack to the wheel had snapped in half. In the words of the RAC recovery man the Gods where looking down on you today. Has anyone else suffered this problem ? as I have lost all confidence in the car. Is my experience a one off that is never likely to happen again ?? Be grateful for any comments.
bloody hell scary stuff !!! glad your ok, the speeds i was driving at today through the kent countyside (does not bear thinking about something like that happening)
a few years back in my 4.3 precat had a similar experience on a dark rainy night,i turned into a side road at near on full lock to find the wheel stayed in that position and i could not budge it,i managed to skid to a halt without hitting the kirb,on investigation it was the uj on the end of the steering column rusted solid, very scary no steering.
the worst part was it had just had a £1400 service the week before & the main dealer!! had painted the uj with white grease(fat lot of good that did)
anyway glad you and the car are fine! and i hope this isn't a common problem.
