Tried both rubber with sealant and then when that started leaking tried cork and sealant and that's started leaking again now. The sump's off again now and I'm thinking of trying a cork gasket again with Hylomar this time. I've checked the face of the sump with a straight edge and it looks flat.

When I had a similar problem with my previous toy I ended up super glueing the a rubber gasket to the sump and then bedding it on Hylomar to the block and that did the trick. One more go and then if it leaks again it'll have to have the super glue treatment !!

If I was designing an engine I'd put the join above the oil level...

Does that make me a genius?

The gasket is above the oil level..

Just how much oil have you put in your engine ?

The oil gets thrown about by the crank once its been sprayed on the underside of the pistons.. I believe.
