How many made ? Griffith 500 sorry if its been done before
Discussion
I replied to a similar question this on the TVRCC site reserch suggested that there's a range of numbers but according to Roger Shackleton's book 'The TVR Griffith Story' there are two figures suggested with Neil Anderson in his foreword saying that his figures amount to 2,334.
Elsewhere Mike Penny says that when Classic cars ran a buying guide story in 2003 the figures they obtained were as follows.
4.x = 625
500s = 1640
Making a total of 2,265
Steve Heath in the 2nd edition of the 'bible' comes up with a figure of 2,445. This number has been estimated as production figures for Griffith Chimaera and Cerbera chassis were all combined with one another. The breakdown for that figure is given as 4.0ltr = 679, 4.3BV = 25, 4.5BV = 12, 5.0ltr = 1,629, 5.0SE = 100.
So it's somewhere around there with regards to cars actually built
As to the numbers remaining that's anyone's guess but if 2,300 ish is the number built then you could probably guess 800 to 1000 of all types written off (maybe more).......

Thanks for that really really interesting, I only ask as I am about to start the search for a Griff 500 to keep long long term ( 30 ish years) and I am trying to work out how specific to be on spec.
I am loking for aa 500 with power steering and air con, pretty rare but I am in no rush so no worries
Thanks for the reply

A while back, I started a thread that got changed to a wiki.
They might help you gauge what sort of numbers are out there. Although the sample is a bit too small to be conclusive.
My original question, which never got answered was. How much more is a Griff worth if it has both A/C and PAS compared to a similar Griff with none or only one?

Interesting numbers...i wonder how many went to each of the EU countries and USA? I've bought mine back in the '96 in Italy (...and i still own the car) but i've never seen another one around in the whole country, just one chimera...i remember the importer once told me that my griffith was one of only a handfull in Italy.
Is there a list/detail where how many griffiths went to each country?

I'd suggest that A/C has little or no value, whereas PAS will potentially effect the driving experience and may decide whether a potential purchasor ultimately walks away or buys.
To be fair David,if you saw two identical cars at a dealer and one had a/c the other didn't,you can bet your life the car with a/c would be up for more money.I'd expect to pay typically £1k more for a/c,though this could be higher or lower depending on the car it is fitted to.I'm a big fan of a/c on these cars,it's hard to find but well worth it.I think it must be so undervalued due to few people having experienced the a/c,and a correctly working a/c system in these cars has several benefits

......... I'd consider the A/C to be a source of potential problems rather than a benefit. Not a scientific decision and probably wrong.

I couldnt agree more with you, i'd also consider that an A/C sistem would be robbing to my driving pleasure at least 10hp of hard earned power output...
Is the AC system better designed than the standard heater box? Or does it simply blow chilled air through the standard box?
This is a serious question BTW, because the standard heater box is a seriously flawed design.
To address these issues I am building a new heater box and would like it to be compatible with the standard AC if possible so I can retrofit AC if I want.
I like AC, but I'm afraid I don't trust TVR to get the design right on their own...

You dont have to have it turned on
.I'm now waiting fot the 'extra weight' argument

We weighed my car and it came out at 1083kgs.Thats a wet weight dont forget,so oil(6 litres)coolant(12 litres) and other fluids,on a car with a/c,pas and full leather.I think thats pretty impressive for a car thats supposed to be 1065kgs dry
,Distribution was good too,30kgs bias toward the front,so just on the safe side of perfect
David-i'm not sure how the design incorporated the heater box,but all i do know is that it works.I get air thats too cold this time of year,great de-misting,the ability to temper the hot air so that you can have mild warmth,rather than hot/bloody hot,and lovely cool legs and feet in the summer with the roof off
.The only great weakness is the poor fan speed imho,which obviously you get in non a/c cars as well. It would be great to see you further improve it though-go on,you know you want to

The hot/bloody hot thing is one of the design flaws... Maybe I'll achieve without AC what yours does with AC
I reckon you could as well
.I'd love to see a pic of what the a/c heater box looks like,and also how the evaporator etc is all located in the inner wing.I'm going to finish off what TVR started with L110,and fit the rest of the a/c system,and these are the bits that are missing.I was going to remove the dash from my RV8 car to have a look see,but i think i've sold it now,so i cant
.If anyone has any pics of these parts in or out of their working location i'd be very greatful
