Not that I'm sceptical or anything, but ... I've had an enquiry for my Griff from someone purporting to be from Germany. Does anyone have any experience of enquiries/sales from overseas?
I'm wary because of a scare story of a friend and my general distrust of anyone I can't deal with face-to-face. That sounds a bit harsh, but YKWIM - it's not really distrust, just uncomfortable.

Back to topic................
I must admit that had i have put mine up for sale,i would have refused offers from overseas.I know it's not 'pc' or whatever, but i just dont think it's worth the risk i'm afraid. There will be plenty of buyers for your car over here mate, and we've now turned the corner from the winter sales depression period, and are heading into the best time to sellsmile

Just ask one of our German owners to 'vet' him first, sure they will be happy to help confirm whether he is a genuine buyer.

Just mention "the war", if he can't laugh about it, he's a real German.

I dont see the problem with a German buyer as long as he stumps up the cash, my brother sold his last TVR (3000M) to french fella who flew over to England bought it then drove it back to France.

I think the only problems would be if he wanted you to ship it over and he'll pay you double rubbish.

Hi, I'm from Holland and I bought a RHD Griffith from a guy in London. Understand it's all a bit vague dealing with a guy from Europe but if the guy is for real he will have the money on hand or get it done by bank transfer via internet or mobile phone. The trouble with LHD cars is that they are double the price compared to a RHD which is stupid money just to sit on the other side. If the guy has the money it should be no problem as the TVR will be put to good use on the German Autobahns. The main problem for the buyer is insurance if he hasn't got a trailer, temp insurance doesn't cover these crazy machines.

I used to own a Griff 4.3 BV, which I sold to a gentleman from Holland with no problems at all. He flew to Heathrow where I picked him up. After a blast through the Berkshire countryside he bought the car! Payment was bank transfer following which we meet again at Heathrow a week later for the handover. He drove the car back to Holland with a smile on his face!!

funny topic for me, as i m Belgian working in Lithuania, so when i send email to a PH ads from here, i think the receiver has a big warning "watch out! this email was generated in Lithuania":-)
I m pretty sure when i was looking for a grif, some seller never answered my request because of thatfrown
But fortunatly, some did, and i found a very good one from a very nice seller not too suspicious about where my email was generated fromsmile
I traveled a first time to see few cars, back to lithuania we discuseeed abot price, and when deal was done i bank transfered the monney, when it was on hos account he called me, and few days after i went to take the car, easy.
I dont see where peoople see any risk if the buyer propose cash or bank transfer before delivery.rolleyes

In the same way that 'Nigeria' sets the alarm bells ringing, Eastern European countries are perceived, rightly or wrongly, as higher risk than usual. We know that these countries are relatively poor, so when somebody pops up seeming to have £20,000 to spend, it can looks suspicious. We think - how does he have so much money? Maybe he's a gangster/drugs baron/fraudster?

It's totally unfair of course if you're a genuine buyer with genuine money, but that's how things are perceived.
