What would be the performance difference beetwin a webber 500 carbed griffith and a fuel injected one? I'm looking for a performant alternative to efi in my griffith, yet simple and reliable.

I've heard some very good things about the webber/carter/edlebrock set up. I'd use a single port manifold or the newish edlebrock manifold if going this route. A magazine test also said there was hardly any difference between this carb install and the efi. Power was the same.

Does this need tuning once you've got it bolted on? I imagine that's not something that the average DIYer would be able to do.

Spoke to a chap at Castle Coombe last year who was running this exact set up on his 4.6 MGB. He said changing the jet needles was quite an easy task.

Few pics of him in action on here. Great V8 forum. Probably has the answer to your question on there too.thumbup

Single Carbs like this are pretty simple to DIY tune, so long as you are supplied with the carb with the corrects jets for your engine. You can set it up with a Colour Tune kit.
Twin and Quadrouple Carbs are a bit more complex to set up tho as each carb is individually tuned and all the carbs then have to be balanced with each other.

Singlecoil fitted one onto his TR8 and dynoed it. He then changed engines but the carb was still in tune when he dynoed it for the second time. So despite changing to a bigger engine it seemed able to accomodate the changes in air flow and add fuel to suit.
