Don't you just hate it when the last thing you ned to undo, take off is the one thing that will not, absolutely shift at all . . . Dad took his out the other day on his 450 on his own, handbrake in gear and a 6ft length of pipe . . . I've had Jo in the car standing on the brakes and even with it in gear and a 2 foot breaker bar I'm justing walking the car down the garage like a starter handle . .

I know it's arounf 170lbs ft, but that doesn't help !

It's the last bit to come off the engine, and I've gotta get it off and it won't shift at all . . . Gonna have to get inventive.

Any suggestions welcome, at the moment I'm looking at fabricating something to lock the rotation of the engine using the pulley/damper holes as the locking point, perhaps to the chassis . . .

Any other ideas welcomed . . .

Even if it was thers nothing I could generate enough heat with in my garage . . .

I think I'll have to make a bracket to the chassis to lock the rotation of the engine making it easier to undo it . . .

I'm not sure there's space for an air/impact ratchet.

You need to lock the flywheel on the ring gear. The crank needs to have a hard stop for you to work against, there's always a certain amount of 'squidge' in the system when simply in gear with the brakes on; it prevents you from breaking the bolt free.

Agree completely, so going to fab a bracket that will bolt to the damper through the pulley bolt holes and the bolt to the chassis, to provide a hard stop to break the tension against . .

I had to drill out one of the pulley bolts tonight, and therefore there is certainly enough room for an impact driver should we end up there.. .

hehe Poor old Jo....Hardly a Dawn French in the weight department is she..maybe you should have swapped places.

I can get hold of a Battery impact wrench for the weekend if you need it?

7 stone wringing wet hehe . . .

Reckon you'll need to do yours with one, at least it'll make it easier, but we'll see how we get on tomorrow . .

mark, remove the starter motor and flywheel cover plate behind the sump, have one person underneath the car and using something like a large flat bladed screwdriver or if you have it a small pinch bar, you can then lock off the rotation of the flywheel by inserting the blade into the flywheel teeth, but make sure whatever you use that it is a good fit between the teeth so as not to damage them, you can then undo the crank pulley nut at the other end.
it will come off quite easy as the amount of leverage you have on the outside of the flywheel is far greater than the leverage required to tighten or undo the crank pulley bolt.

mark, give me a call about the bits you were on about.smile

I found a large allen key wedged in the flywheel teeth worked well, just as Clive says.

Gents

Valid suggestions, I am just not comfortable wedging something in to the flywheel teeth. 'If' I break somthing in there, then it's a whole world of pain I dont need.

I will use them as the alternative to the fabricated locking mechanism. I'll post pictures of how we get onn today . .

Sorry Clive, been all over the place fo rhte last few days. I'll call you this evening.

Cheers

Crack it rather than lean on it... it's the shock that will move it. There is room to get in with a windy gun if the front cross member is out
