Reverse light switch
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I got the car out this morning and noticed the reverse lights were on constantly. Kind of figured it must be the reverse light switch, so I've ordered a new one. Just wanted to know if anyone here has fitted/replaced one?
Just looking for a bit of advise as the location of the switch leads me to believe it could be a bit of a nightmare job, best left for the garage.
Cheers

You are right to think it is a nightmare of a job.
I've had the garage set it up and it went tits up in no time.
I've also replaced it myself with a much better quality switch from Land Rover (which necessitated changing the wiring connectors because you'd know they would be bullets instead of spades wouldn't you) and set it up myself a couple of times - it is still rubbish.
The switch sits under a plate which provides the friction you feel when you shove over into reverse. You can get to the switch relatively easily but tuning it so it works as it should is a real bugger. Oh, and clamping it in position when you do get it to work right is a sod because it clamps with a nut over the plate and one under - and you can only reach the one under.
Ah, all that is speaking from an LT77 box perspective. It could be completely different if you've got the later box.
BTW, you don't need reversing lights for the MOT.
