Griffith Glove Box
Discussion
Hello all,
I managed to brake the catch on my glove box, ordered another one from e-bay. It worked for the first open and shut and the second time it broke. I then got another one from Fernhurst, this one doesn't work!
Has anyone found any stronger alternatives?
Does anyone make a metal catch?
Cheers
Simon

The B & Q loft ladder catch isn't the permenant fix people hope, but it is a big improvement on standard.
I have had 3 in a year. The problem seems to be that the catch stops working if it is pushed in too far.
Every time I carry a tall passenger, his knees force the glovebox shut and the catch never works properly again. Yet all the time I only take the wife its no problem.
We need a permenant fix. There are conversions which use a solonoid to bolt the box shut. I think modwise and Carl Baker have both had a go at this.
It seems to me that we need a catch thats unaffected by upward pressure, a solonoid that engages a slot rather than round hole might do but the switch needs to differ to that tried before. Continious upward pressure would keep the solonoid powered and burn it out.
The other option is to increase the legroom and prevent peoples legs forcing the glovebox.

I know this doesn’t really help but…
A few years back I got really fed up with mine and slammed it shut with excessive force, this shattered the latch into a dozen pieces. Realising the error of my ways I set about looking for all the bits and gluing them back together with araldite, worked perfectly ever since.
I think the latch just needs a good fright, then it should be OK.

I've used a simple brass cupboard catch, works perfectly cost about £1.50 iirc.
