When I was buying last year I looked to see if there was any difference between the 'experts' who sell HIDs for £200+ and the ebay kits for £30 + and I couldn't see any difference. I even had a look once I'd physically got mine and it looked no different to one cost 4 times what I'd paid.

My guess is that they all come from the same factory anyway smile

Coloured in wiring diagrams and clear instructions in proper English might account for the £170 mark up (UF whined enough when he read them..) hehe

But keep it quiet or PH's own Mary Whitehouse of Hids will be making an appearance hehe

They draw quite a jolt on start up, I would install a 'brighter lights' type circuit to the RHS. This will facilitate faster startup of the lights (some circuits can't actually fire up the hids I believe YMMV), and I would guess extend the working life of the units.

Take a 50a cable from the starter/alt fuse, to relays which are powered by the existing RHS light circuits. Its also handy to put a convenience plug to charge the battery from the front whilst you are at it IMHO (it is also a handy electrical test point if you need to find a good +/-ve to test against wink )

They're dead easy to fit and it doesn't matter if the instructions are in Chinese as it's so straightforward. Mine are wired in as normal and they fire up no problem.

They're only a fiver more new from a UK supplier:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/XENON-HID-CONVERSION-KIT-H1-...

Personally I think the 6000k is too Blue but that's just me.

4300K from China (Ebay) would come in under the £50 delivered.

Which did you wire up the dipped beams or the mains, and where did you put the ballast

(Hows the cufflinks by the way smile )

I wired up the mains as I thought the dipped might cause problems with dazzling people as they are soooo bright cool
The ballasts are mounted up inside the nose.

(Cufflinks are complaining they don't get enough use biggrin )

I was thinking the mains - as I guess the extra brightness would be more use to me down the quiet country lanes than the well lit A roads. My Laguna has factory fit Xenons and their on dipped beam though not main beam so thought there might be a good reason to wire them that way round.

Doesn't wiring them to the mains cause issues when you want to flash your lights to someone - due to the time it takes for them to fire up?

No . . . It is a different time taken compared to normal bulbs, but it's perfectly acceptable and the lights make a mockery of the old set up . . .

I'll show you when I next see you . .. . It won't be at Thumpers though as the Griffith will still be off the road probably . .

On a flash you can see them quite clearly. When you switch them on they hit full intensity and then get brighter as they warm up. Once they have been warmed up if you switch them off and back on again (to avoid dazzling someone) then they come back on instantly and as johno says they make the original lights look truely pathetic.

Mmmm, I've been considering getting some of these but thought they would have to be for dipped beam rather than high beam (driving lights) because of the time lag of the HID ballasts kicking in.
It's nice to know that isn't the case because I'd rather put them in the high beam because one day - if I can find all the bits - I'd like to convert my dipped beam to 7" SE lamps because I prefer the look of them to the standard lamps.

What lumens did you get Johno - is 6000k too 'blue' ?
