Steering Column - Problem found and solved
Discussion
Just for the sake of all you owner with later model cars, being the owner of a ’92 model I though I'd start a list of the mods you are going to have to make when you cars starts falling apart in a few years
My car has always had a bit of slack in a vertical direction on the steering column and it's been getting progressively worse
Turns out there is a pin on the underside of the adjustable part of the column that 2 toothed adjusters locate into, giving the column the 3 positions of adjustment.
That's all well and good until the pin works it's way out of the interference fit housing and the ali starts to wear around it. Even if you drift the pin back in it now has too much slack and the pin will probably not stay in place. Add to that the wear in the teeth and although it will be much better there’s still room for improvement
Answer ? The existing pin is 3.5mm. Take a 4mm hss drill bit and snap the end off to suit (please wear eye protection just in case) file it down so it is a tight fit in the teeth and then drift it back into place. The sheared section of the drill bit cuts nicely in to ali and it will also not rotate and work loose.

Hey presto. £1 solution to a very annoying problem
