Are Griff fuel pipes usually jointed near the bulkhead? I'm inspecting/replacing mine and this joint doesn't look like it should be there, I suspect someone has replaced just part of it yikes

Do they usually run from the fuel rail straight to the copper pipe near the gearbox?
ETA:
I can see why it's been done now, how the fk are you supposed to replace the pipe without amputating a couple of limbs and throwing them down behind the bulkhead?

That is standard on the car...IMHO ensure that you use 8mm unleaded rubber pipe and change to fuel pipe clips instead of J clips....these pipe should be treated as part of the service schedule for replacement.

I would attempt to use pipe clips every time, TBH I cant think of an instance where jubilee clips are better?

They're not really suited to this application.

If a Jubilee clip weeps a bit on a coolant hose, all that'll happen is that you might lose a bit of water.

If it weeps on a petrol pipe, could be a bit more seriousyikes

Put it this way, I wouldn't use Jubilee clip on a petrol pipe.
Hello Quinny My Yellow Backed Buddy smile

Do the clips you refer to have a name ?

Come on Pasco, own up.

You've got Jubilee clips on the fuel pipes haven't you???

Just so's you know the main difference is that a proper fuel line clip has a bit of a sleeve type arrangement, so that when you tighten it, it applies a very even pressure around the pipe.

Whereas a jubilee clip, will "dig" in where the joint is, and eventually it will damage the hoseyes

So now you know, and thats a brew you owe meheheyes

Couple of months hard graft to finish off a couple of outstanding projects for themyes
Then I'm off, signed all the papers yesterday.

Its gonna be a great feeling, and I really want to leave on a positive note.

The really nice thing was, they didn't want me to go, and turned my application for V. redundancy downyikes Which was very flattering.

But they accepted that due to health reasons it wasn't really fair to keep me if I'd made my mind up.

I really couldn't have asked for a better deal, I've been there 22 years, and they've been a great company to work for.
I've been very lucky to work for such an outfit, and I'm going to do my best for them in these last few weeksyesthumbup

To get back on topic, you can get at both the fuel pipe joints better with the plenum off. All quite easy then.

Straying back off topic redface

Its not so easy if you have to diet for 10 years so that you can reach the plenum first though hehe

BTW, Jubilee do make other clips than the dreaded worm drive, IIRC they do the 'super clamp?' pipe clips. Just remember when buying clips they are specified by diameter (just divide by 3 ((~pi)) to calculate diameter range).

If that's the case I'll replace the pipe as and when the plenum is off seeing as it's currently OK. Didn't want to miss an opportunity if having the body raised was the right time to do it though.

Take care about assuming the pipe is OK. Because of topics on here I regularly checked the pipes on mine and they looked fine until one day there was a rather strong smell of petrol and a hissing sound as it sizzled on the hot manifold. They split on the inside of the bend which you can’t see and the fuel is under pressure so squirts out quite enthusiastically.

Hello TheGiffalo,

Just looking at the picture again, on the fuel pipe shown, it looks like there could be 2 rubber sections joined by the a short piece of copper. Is that what you were questioning?

Originally there would have been just 1 rubber section on both the supply and return pipes fitted between the main copper pipes that run along the chassis and the fuel rail.

If your rubber section has been cut and joined with only the part of it having been replaced in the past I would return it to the original spec and replace all the rubber with just 1 new section in each pipe.

Yup, it's that join that I was questioning. So, it seems you have to pop the plenum off to replace the pipe, what kind of a job is that and does it seal up again relatively easily? Any gaskets involved?

If you gotta do it the Plenum comes of easy, Undo allen bolts holding it down, unplug stepper, throttle pot plug, air intake pipe and you can lift it up and off with all the throttle still connected adn rest on side of car.
No Gasket just something like Hymolar blue will do ..remember to clean old off smile
