Where are the earthing straps ?
Discussion
What do you mean by using the plural?
The battery connects to the chassis by the left hand door handle and the engine connects to the chassis by the right hand upper damper mount.
There's a few other random wires connected to the chassis for lighting earths and everything that lurk under the radiator and in other awkward places.

There's one in the right front wheel arch attached to the diagonal of the outrigger. There's another under the centre console. After that there are earth points under the front right of the radiator (mine's on the A/R bar mount), and to the engine from the loom in a numner of places (e.g. rear of left hand cylinder head).
Totally discharging a battery is normally what kills it quickly, so make sure you keep it topped up with a trickle charger or something.

Can’t see how a poor earth connection can kill the battery unless it is so poor that it is not being charged. I can see however that when you try to draw a high current ( to run the starter for example) and one of the connections is resistive it could give the symptom of a discharged battery. If your batteries are genuinely dying then it is probably because they are being discharged beyond the point where they start to sulphate which reduces the capacity and starts a downward spiral. This will happen either because the car is drawing higher than usual quiescent current when it is not in use or because it is not being charged when it is in use.
Having said that a good clean connections can only be a good thing.

There's also one at the back hiding behind the fuel tank. It's attached to the upper rear chassis mounting point.Totally discharging a battery is normally what kills it quickly, so make sure you keep it topped up with a trickle charger or something.
