Been looking at lots of topics over the last few weeks as im possibly going to change my current impreza for either a chimaera or a griffith, but unsure as to which as both seem very similar to an uneducated non tvr person..... current car has 300+ bhp and i would like similar performance from which ever car i decide to go for,any owners care to elaborate why i should go one route or the other?

Posted this in the chim section also for their opinion

The Griff tends to be bought by more enthusiastic owners (see the photos from the Growl on www.thegriffithpages.com )(that should get me told off by Steve next time we meet).

The Chim has a bigger boot, but the Griffs is still big for a sports car.

If you can't balance your feet and rely on the electrics in the Subaru to drive the car for you, don't buy either. Both will bite the unwary or cocky quickly, and bite the experienced from time to time too.

Learn to drive them and they're both fantastically rewarding cars, and you'll get "nice car, mate" comments everywhere you go.

Which one do you like the look of most?
Can you afford the extra few grand a similar age/quality Griff would be over a Chim?
Do you need the extra boot space in a Chim? or can you stand the extra hassle of getting a Griff roof in the boot?

They are all properly fast, a bit scary and cannot be driven the same way as a Scoob.

I'd be very happy with either but chose a Griff because to me (and absolutley no offence meant to Chim owners/lovers), they are just that little bit more special. Its a very personal choice I think.

How soon are you thinking of buying? The Chimfest and Griff Growl will be upon us in no time; it'd certainly be worth your while visiting those splendid events to help sway you.

The Griff is arguably the most beautiful car that TVR ever made. It's shape is simple and pure and looks very much a muscle car, especially from the back.

There are more Chimaeras available - usually about 3 times more. This gives a better choice of colour/spec/condition. It also means, like for like, Chims tend to be cheaper.

So the answer to your question comes down to budget, availability of the 'right' colour/spec and your preference as to which - if either - you prefer.

Rigga,

If you want to get between A and B in the quickest possible time neither Griff or Chimeara are going to get the job done compared to your current car. In terms of straight line speed a 4.3 or 5.0 litre car should feel at least as quick in the dry and in my experience any TVR will feel twice as quick as a scooby when you are doing 30 mph through town. They are a real experience to drive, loud and unmistakably a sports car rather than a saloon.

As to whether to get a Griff or Chimaera? I have a Gtiff and my brother has just bought a chim. Unless you really want a Griff i would go for the Chimaera. They are much better value to buy at the moment with decent 4 litres down as low as 7k compared to 10k for a similar Griff. The price difference in my opinion is down to supply and to a lesser extent image. There are 3 Chims out there for every 1 Griff and the Griff definetly has the bigger cult following due to the impact the car made when it was launched.

One word of caution. I couldn't live with either car as a day to day. Many do but there are clear advantages to being able to choose when you want to drive your car rather than having to drive it all the time.

Good luck

If it's a straight choice between a Griff and a Chimp - get a Griff!

No reason. Just do it!

But lighter when you take the combined weight of car + driver!

Thanks for all the replies guys, unfortunatly still undecided which one i prefer out of the two, will only be a weekend and sunny day toy should i decide to buy one, would hope to keep the impreza as a everyday car as its very practicle and swift........ ill keep looking and hopefully decide before the summer ends, also noticed a speed six tuscan is in my price range, would prefer a v8 though.

Without opening a can of worms, read up on the Speed Six engine thoroughly before considering a Tuscan.

I have done a small ammount of research ref the speed six engine,my original intention was/is to get a v8 engined car,but looking through some for sale on here i noticed avery nice tuscan that was in my proposed price range, very nice looking, but might be better to stick with my riginal plan...... do like the look of the newer shaped bodies that the tuscan/t350 sag have, not saying the Griff and chim are visually challenged before anyone takes offence......

Here you go then, do what I did & have the T350 lights fitted to a nice Chimaera. There's a good looking 2-pod conversion for a Griffith someone does as well.
