fitting power steering
Discussion
Hi Gary,
If you do a search on power steering there are quite a few threads that cover this and some may mention places that will do it for you...

I have been toying with fitting the electric power steering unit from the Vauxhall Corsa. The motor drives the column rather than the rack & is very compact. I have not had the dash apart to check for space yet, but it should be do able
I`m sure someone was selling one on class. fairly recently fitted with eleccy power steering. Something I`ve thought about myself, thuogh itll only come into use occasionally, I guess!Dave.

The major problem you'll have though is the rack, it was a TVR special and of course now difficult to source.
I was talking to one of the guys at tvr power and he said the same thing , they dont make the rack no more hard to find and when you do tvr power said it could be as much as£2000 fitted .

Going the electric column route seems to be getting a lot of mentions on here, but I would be a little concerned about excessive/rapid rack and uj wear as you will loose the damping effect through the steering wheel. Do these electric columns have dampers to prevent this?
Lots of threads on this topic. If there is room to fit electric power steering a point to take into consideration is whether or not the mounting points of the steering column are strong enough to withstand the reaction torque of the motor. The power of the original TVR pump is reacted into the rack mountings in the chassis. There is a company that makes custom electric racks but are very expensive.

My other half has found one, if you still need it.It is at 'The Garage' in Compton, near Guildford. Ask for Dave Batty (I think).
Difficult to source? Nah, only if you're called David, are bald, and insist on having the last word, LOL.

I have a Corsa 'B' column sat in my garage at the moment. It will fit in the Griff with only a minor mod to one piece of fibreglass under the dash. The Corsa 'C' unit is smaller, so should fit without any problem.
The snag is that the corsa column requires 4 bolts to hold it, and the Griff has 2. It shouldn't be hard to fabricate a bracket for this - it's definitely required due to the column weight.
Lastly, there's quite a bit of work to get the TVR UJs to match up with the end of the Corsa column. It's a bit shorter than the TVR one. Again, there should be few real problems here.
