My heads have got grooves machined around the combustion chamber lip, into which are fitted wire rings. V8D say these are to increase pressure on the head gasket and reduce HGF. Is this a TVR Power thing? Are all TVR RV8 heads like this?

Shouldn't think so, certainly none that I've seen. Its not an uncommon practice tho' especially if you using nitrous or supercharging it.

Mine were the same when I stripped my griff engine down !! just had them re skimed you could still see traces of the circle in the heads but with a OEM gasket their was no problems even with all the power mods I carried out rolleyes

Yes, it's reported that some of the TVR Power heads on the 4.3s were O-ringed (which is definitely a good thing with high compression or forced induction engines). I think you need to use a metal head gasket rather than a composite one with those (or was it the other way round? confused).

Have a word with either TVR power or V8 Developments..

I think tin (Metal) or pure copper gaskets would be used and you have also need the wire in the o ring..

Really depends why it was put there..

Like is the C/R very high (10.5 : 1) was NO2 used as some point or a blower..

Nice looking heads - looks like they have had some work done on them.

What are the valve sizes in mm ?

I did that, they both said different things!

Power said you need a copper composite gasket, then supplied an all copper one. They later said that wasn't suitable and copper composite weren't available, grooves would need to be machined out. Then in Sprint they're quoted as saying that the SC supercharger conversion involves machining Wills rings. Pity they don't say which head gasket they intend to use...

V8D also state that copper composite unavailable and if the grooves are there, wire must be used. V8D supplied the wire and their own standard (steel) composite gaskets.

Real Steel said they build Wills ringed heads and use standard composite gaskets. That's what I wanted to hear, so that's what I believed!

RPi, Garner and the TVR dealers all pointed me to Power or V8D.

The point of wire or wills rings in to make a high pressure point - much higher than can be made with a gasket alone.

This really needs to bite into some thing mallable - cooper is about the most mallable thing I know - composite .. not sure .. and the tin - OK but not so mallable.

Guess you find out soon after fitting by doing a CR test.

Relly cannot see why they would be needed unless super charged or using NO2.
