Evening all,
After a fantastic day hooning around a very sunny Lake District the Griff suddenly stopped a mile from home. RAC bloke couldn't help so it had to be trailered back home.

I was going along very happily at about 50mph, put foot down to overtake, suddenly lost all power and engine stopped. Coasted to a stop.
When trying to start the engine catches very briefly then dies again. Even giving it a bit of gas when starting still wont run.
Got a spark OK
Fuel cut off switch reset
Fuel pump primes as normal and sounds OK and plenty of fuel in the tank.
Vacuum advance thingy had a small hole in a pipe but re-sealed and made no difference
RAC bloke sprayed an easy start type spray into AFM and the engine would run (roughly) so he suspects a fuel (pressure?) problem.

Anyone had similar probs or got any advice? It'd be much appreciated. Thanks.

Kinda spolit a fantastic dayfrown

I'm no expert but it does sound exactly like when I ran out of fuel once - so maybe some crud in the line?

Take the fuel supply pipe off, point in to a suitable container & crank it over. That'll tell you if you've got fuel or not. yes

In a basic way of course.

I had this issue on the Route Napoleon in France last year. It was eventually diagnosed by a Lambo dealer in Cannes as a faulty coil - It actually *was* producing a spark so the breakdown guy missed it but due to the component failure the spark was exceptionally weak.

Incidentally they charged me £120 for all of the diagnosis, the repair and the part. Unbelievable service!

I suffered similar symptons a couple of months ago, in my case it was the connector block to the coil amplifier making a bad connection - checked and clean contacts and it was cured.

Symptoms sound a lot like no fuel pressure (it'll fire, may even sounds as if it's trying to run, but any throttle at all kills it). Since the pump is running I'd wonder whether the fuel pressure regulator has failed. You could test it by briefly restricting the return line and see whether it affects the symptoms.

Hi Swanny,

Just seen your post, still can't quite keep away from the Griff forum but am delighted she is being used on proper roads and not the rubbish I could offer her in the south east!

PM me with your phone number, it may be that the she is doing what she is designed to do and something you would be very grateful for if some ccensoredt nicked her

An update for future referance.
Problem has been diagnosed as a dead air flow meter, new one to be fitted next week so fingers crossed.
Thanks to Richard and the guys at Dulfords for sorting this out.
