Rev counter stays at 1200 rpm

All of a sudden my rev counter stays at 1200 rpm when the car idles. The revs are way lower than 1200 rpm and have not changed, it's just the rev counter that doesn't fall below 1200 rpm. While accelerating the revs do rise like normal. Can this be reset by resetting the ECU ?

Must have been an alarm problem They all seem to contain this amount of detail
