Hi Guys, now that I have a leaking radiator, I was wondering if I should take the opportunity to upgrade to an Aluminium type ? Knowing the cooling 'problems’ associated with the Griff has anyone gone down this route and is it worth the extra money? Any feedback will be grateful.

Cheers LLL

Having your rad recored with an extra core added is the logical step forward. The alloy rads are better, but more expensive, and several have had problems with cracks - possibly due to the 'flexible' mounting.

yes I'd agree, go for the 3 core recore, half the price and just as efficient without the potential problems.
Mine was £189.00 just over a year ago

Thanks V8 GRF, where did you have the recore done?

Had it done in Preston.

The guys who did the recore are the classic, under the arches out of a Dickins novel type operation. They've been there years and did a recore of a Austin Healey radiator for me about 25 years ago.

They're called Motor Radiator Specialists and have full testing facilities.

Thanks V8 GRF

If you say to go for the 3 core what is the standard radiator.

I don't think there's an option, the core they use is 3 core.

Oh sorry, I'm not actually sure but my radiator is thicker than the original radiator so I assume the standard one is 2 core?
A recore is cheaper than buying a replacement standard one by the way and it definitely works better.

Just looked on a couple of sites and the costs range from £269 to a whopping £446 it looks like I will be going for a 3core recore.

Thank you for all your help on this.

Yippee!!!

The Griff is back on the road again with a brand new, shiny 3 core rad and it's working brilliantly. In fact it's probably working too well. Thanks to Ian at RVT in Middlewich who stocks the upgraded radiator and fitted it too!!
