hello!

this is my first contribution to this great site!

i have owned several sportscars (kept only my M5 touring) and found them all too tame - so i decided to restore a tvr griffith 500 !

i powdercoated all suspension parts, fitted new brakes, carpets, dashboard, all fluids and belts, service and and and

my only problem left( and the search function couldnt really help me):somebody removed after a chassis accident the complete air intake system in the left inner wing and pulled the heating fuse (nr 15 in a 97 reg PAS model, RHD - no AC)

i know about the problems and insufficency of the griff heating/fresh air system and that some owners prefer to get rid off the whole system.

anyway i would like to understand how it works to decide to put a new motor in the wing or ty to optimize the system.

does anybody have detailed pictures of the air intake, blower motor placement and passenger footwell? which motor to take?

the box with all the servo motors and valves behind the glove box seems to be in working order, also the control unit (with the alu knobs and leds) seems to work

i can not find detailed information about the air intake system - and in my car it is completely missing - i am not able to make it up - even using all my fantasy frown

please help me

gregory

There's an article on The Griffith Pages here that might help. You may have to sign up to see it but it's worth it as there's loads of good stuff on there yes

Believe me, you couldn't begin to imagine the way this system works!

The article on TheGriffithPages is the best thing to follow if you can. It is pretty much what I've just done and it has made a big improvement.

If you need any further information though I photographed it all while I had it all apart, so give me a yell.

thanks hgr and baretti for answering me about this old problem,

i read the good article from the griff pages (did my homework) but there are still some questions:

if i got it right there is a cavity between motor compartment boundary and dashboard mount where the air coming from the inner wing is circulating? the heating box is connected to this compartment?

i correctly noticed that the central air outlets beside the radio are just stuck into this compartment?
but how is the driver footwell (i have the late model) air outlet (the most important to prevent barbecue legs in summer) connected?

my main problem:

how to access this compartment?

HOW IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN INNER WING AND THIS COMPARTMENT?????

is ist possible to connect the blower via a tube to this compartment to prevent leaking?

i can not follow this passage in the article :

"I decided to install 100mm ducting between the motor and partway towards the control box"

does anybody have a picture of a badly crashed car where this area can be seen or a schematic drawing?

baretti, if you have pictures of this area (especially footwell), i would be glad if you could send them to : gregtrade@t-online.de

greetings greg (griffith rookie...)

I think Quinny may have a pic of the wing compartment open.

Just a suggestion from personal experience but check a) the drivers door seal, near your ankles b) the air vent in the driver's footwell (it is supposed to do that biggrin ).

good luck

Thanks for the help. Door seal looks good, but cannot make sense of the vent, nothing looks like it should work, hoping photos might clear it up a little
