advice needed thanks
griff 500 {pre serp} engine start up pressure is fine showing 29/35 psi
but when engine is hot after a long run pressure at idle drops to around 8/9 psi [this is on a digital pressure gauge screwed into the block} oil pressure light does not come on though
engine sounds fine and pulls well
dont know what oil is in it as engine was fitted by castle race engines
any advice
is this ok

Sounds a little on the low side to me. My dash guage generally jumps to 30 PSI at startup rising to 40/45 after a few moments. IIRC it will drop to about 25 PSI when it's really hot and the oil has thinned but doesn't go any lower than that.

What does the dash guage say as that's the measurement most of us will have to go on.

Change the oil first, it might still have mineral oil in? How the oil copes with heat is a major factor in hot oil pressure and oil longevity.

The tracking is great - watch it fly in no time, and then spend static days being used a a baseball / cricket bat by the baggage handlers pretending to be Brain Lara hehe

Back to OP - Tuscrv8 - Mine (Griff 500) does the same, and has done for the five years I have had it. So long as you keep changing the oil as per servicing, and the pressure goes up again when you rev, I have learned to live with it.

what he says, but check on what the oil is, some thin grades, mobile 1 give these symptons.

The old Mobil One myth surfaces again.

Find out the viscosity of the oil they used. Mobil One gave me no visible oil pressure at all on a hot day on tickover. Then on the advice of Scole Engineering I used Castrol RS (10/60 IIRC) and now I have decent oil pressure all the time smile

As I understand it, that's because the RV8 is not hi-tech micro-tolerance 1.8 revvy riceburner, but a ponderous lump with gaps you can get you hand in, designed by Newcomen!

Seconded, the mobil racing 15/50 also maintains good pressure when warm, even on old pre-serps. Chalk & cheese from the mobil 10/40 and other 'brands' that claim higher viscosities that I have bought at Halfrauds BTW. If you find a brand that is good you will stick with it, they are expensive but the difference is amazing. Don't be fooled by the folks who run with FA oil pressure and say its fine as long as changed, they must do "driving with miss Daisy" impressions..
