My battery has gone flat in just a week and would not even operate the alarm. I have had trouble with the alarm going off when it is under a car cover. Charged the battery and car starts but I see two problems
Firstly what is discharging the battery, could it be the central locking system
Secondly, thought I would disconnect the battery and try to measure any drain current. On undoing the negative earth the alarm goes off, so has the alarm got its own battery back up. Did not try resetting it though
The alarm is a Clifford Concept 300
If this is a sensitive issue and you know how to proceed please PM me
I don't want to buy a new battery if the problem lies elsewhere

Hi

I'm not familiar with that particular alarm but it sounds similar to my Meta system. All the following comments are based on my experience and may or may not apply to your car! rolleyes

The siren has an internal battery and will be set off when it detects the power is removed and it is active.

My siren developed a fault and went off while parked up, even after I had physically removed it from the car and chucked it in the boot it was still going off and was still going 30 minutes later. Quite embarrasing removing the siren and then driving out of a public car park with it still wailing from the boot! headache I had to have a replacement siren fitted by Karl Baker.

You should be able to disconnect the battery if the alarm is disabled; however if you disconnect the battery and then reconnect it, the alarm is activated and will need deactivating before you disconnect the battery again.

The alarm may go off if the battery becomes discharged and the alarm is active.

The battery will discharge if the car is left unused for a long time (week or more). This is a combination of the alarm system and clock I believe. Most people use a battery conditioner (Accumate) to keep the battery topped up while the car is unused.
