I'm getting close to buying possibly a Griffith 500, any idea how many to the gallon I could expect? I only say this as on the other vehicles I have, I've always got better economy than anybody else, whilst never seeming to get left behind.

I'll get my coat........

I had a Griff 500 for about 15 months, did 19,000 miles and only once got into the 20's (on a 450 mile motorway run). Generally 16 to 18mpg - I gave up checking after a while as it was too depressing.

Cheers,

Mike.

Thanks, that's about what I was expecting. No stopping me now! (as Freddie once said).

Same for me too,

I’ve had my Griff a few years now and at first I kept a close eye on the fuel consumption and it never got over 20mgp. Then after a couple of months you don’t care any more and now I like to just tickle the throttle on the over run to make it pop and bang, this must be wasting fuel and knackering the cat’s, but what the heck it makes me

Cheers,

Simon.

Get yourself a Shell Pluspoints card - I've got 873 points in two and a half months that's 873 litres!

Once I have had bonus points added I've nearly got a tenner off a fill up!

Huh - small fry - I've got over 3,500 shell points now. They were doing double points with optimax a few months ago. Must cash them in for some airmiles soon. Wonder if airmiles take BJ points as well

I average 22 mpg - but I drive it hard so I must have an economical car - oil consumption is very low too...

To get some idea of what you'll achieve you need to look at what you will do with the car. I get around 23 mpg but this is in every day use where inevitably, not all of it is hard driving. I once got upper 20's on a long run where I wasn't trying. On the other hand a Sunday afternoon blast, or stop start driving in traffic has an effect.

Surely this is numpty territory? TVR? Fuel consumption? Who cares?

Practical view: (a) that oil wasn't doing any good under the ground anyway
Socilaist view: (b) Gordy needs your taxes. Burn and enjoy. It's no good in your pension fund.

What do you think paid for the car?

No, seriously, I was expecting 16-20, but one of the lads on the VTR list has just bought a 4.0 Chim, and I wasn't sure if he was joking when he told me to expect 10-12!

Anyway, we collect the car on saturday, and I'm sure its going to be a very long week till then.

IMHO average motoring (ie a bit of blatting mixed with dual carriageway A-B stuff) will see c25mpg in a 4.0 and c20mpg in a 500. Naturally the more you blat the lower it goes, but 10-12 sounds more like a trackday figure.

I thought it was thirstier but not as bad as I feared as it's just a small tank!

It can be very variable, down to right foot and service due/state of tune, taking longer to warm up in winter, time of the month.

So for a 500? On a worst case scenario I will only get about 160 miles of townwork out of about 40 litres. That's in the 18mpg territory.

Stretch our legs and we'll see 200, maybe 220, which is nearer 25mpg.

I'd reckon over the mileage that I've had mine that 20 is a reasonable average.

Not sure on exact numbers per gallon and the guages are not teh most reliable sometimes. My rule of thumb was 200 miles on a tank with average driving. Someone can work that out into mpg if they want

...and does anybody have a yardstick for "average"/who wants to be "average" anyway?

This must be a record then...

Once managed 320 miles on a single tank of Optimax!

Worst is 140 miles, average is around 180.

Well I got the Griff today.

Woke up at 4.35 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep.

What a car. This is going to be a long relationship (I hope).

Wish I could have had one years ago.

If you haven't got one, don't wait 11 years like I did.

maggit

(smiling so hard I probably won't sleep tonight either)

Just came back from a drive in the mountains (Alps, Dolomites).

While cruising the German autobahn at about 100 Mph. we used about 12.5 liters per 100 Km.

While racing the German autobahn at about 150 Mph. we used about 13.5 liters per 100 Km.

While racing uphill, Stelvio, Timmelsjoch, etc. we used about 15 liters per 100 Km.

On average we used about 12.77 liters per 100 Km.

I'm sorry, i'm to bushed to to the maths and calculate this into Mph etc.

Fred

PS they must have been the most well spend liters of feul of my life. Real funny to overtake motorcycle drivers on their way uphill. LOL

Colin, congratulations on your new purchase-trust me you'll never regret it! We've just got back from a week in scotland covering 1000 miles at an average of 14mpg-obviously we were enjoying ourselves to achieve this figure
I trust you didn't buy the car for it's fuel economy anyway,so,just think of it as 'smiles per mile' and enjoy!!

And if that load of Johnny Foreigner talk isn't a good enough reason for us to get out of Europe and keep the pound, the mile and the gallon then I don't know what is. What the hell is the above in English please?

Oh, I get about 20-22 mpg by the way, but not at the moment as I appear to have an overfuelling problem (sooty plugs missus).

Edited to say I missed the translation post by Jigs
