Fan Overide Switch

Hi All,

While looking at my brake light sensor, in footwell, I noticed a switch, near steering column, which turned out to be a fan overide switch.

Is this standard with pre-cats??

Would it be a problem to have the fans on all the time?

Don't know if its standard but i doubt it.

No its not a good idea to leave the fans running all the time,as you can overcool the engine.Obviously fine to leave them on in slow moving traffic

It'll wear the fan out quicker, but if the stat is working properly the fan can't overcool the engine. Bigger radiator, more fans etc just gives the stat more authority.

Fan override switch is NOT standard. Very sensible upgrade though.

Unless you have a modified stat as per bible (for S)

Hang on, I thought the whole point of the manual override switch was that it bypassed the thermostat? Otherwise whats the point? Therefore leaving the fan on would overcool the engine. Please correct me if I'm wrong and explain how it works. I use mine but only in traffic.

Fan override switch simply runs the fans constantly

The thermostat is a mechanical device which opens at a predetermined temp
