another daft question - perhaps!

Hi Craig,
You might have opened a can of worms
For most people it's down to the looks, if you prefer one but buy the other you'll regret it. The Chimaera's are often seen as the sports tourer with a slightly bigger boot and softer suspension in the 4.x cars (though many will have been modified by now). The Griffith is more of an out and out sports car although I think the Griff and Chim 500 are almost identical under the body work.
The Griffith is a much rarer car (I think something like 2400 were made, 1700 of which were 500's), won a British Design Award and many attribute the Griffith with changing TVR's fortunes.... which is why the values are higher I suppose.
There are buyer's guides on http://www.thegriffithpages.com and http://www.tvrbooks.co.uk/
The main things to look out for are chassis condition (especially the outriggers) and how well the mechanicals have been looked after, i.e. has it been serviced maintained well. Mileage is not a good indicator of condition. If you're not confident to check these yourself a pre-purchase inspection is probably a good idea.
