I've put my new ACT stainless cooling pipes & silicone hoses on, very smart they look too, and refitted the modwise 2 speed fan kit I bought last year.

This time I read the instructions, & it says the external sensor 'bulbs' should be strapped to the drivers side rad outlet pipe, whereas last time I put them on the passenger side inlet pipe. I assumed that was right bcause that's the pipe that comes from the header tank which has the original sensor switch at the bottom.

Surely if they go on the outlet pipe they will be sensing the water already cooled by the rad?

They are much quicker to react when on the outlet pipe, the rise there is much quicker as you slow down, the rad input will only rise slowly.

David,
I fitted your 2 stage kit last year but have messed with the dials and have lost the paperwork.
What are the best setting IYO..?

Also is it right that the fans run on after the ignition is switched off for one cycle, is this a pre-set time or can it be adjusted.. just thinking about battery life etc.?

Sorry for the hijack.. spin

Thanks David, I'll leave them on the outlet pipe as you say. Do the sensors work best on the steel pipe or the rubber hose?

The other thing I'll do before I set off for France on Sunday is wire the feed from the starter motor to get the extra cooling after switch off.

Why have the fans run on? Surely once the water pump has stopped it will have little more effect than popping the bonnet?

Either pipe as its fully adjustable, even the flat surface of the rad near the outlet.
