Just tried to plug my sat nav into the lighter socket in the door of my 1992 Griff and the plug wouldn't fit. If you peer down inside the socket there is a red plastic insert which seems to be stopping the plug going full depth to make contact at the bottom. It also seems to be stopping the lighter plunger from making contact at the bottom.
What's all this about, have TVR created the first cigarette lighter for non smokers?

Sounds like something has fallen in and ended up being jammed into the bottom.

If its red in colour it might be an accesory plug thats been used for say a acumate charger in the past, they have a removable red end for different sized cigar lighters....

A wire stretched from the door to the top of the dash gets in way and keeps pulling out.
Fit a new socket in the dashboard.

I use mine from the door socket, not a problem.

Mount the unit to the right of the steering wheel and wedge the wire into the gap between the dash top and the A pillar trim and run it straight down, keeps it out of the way when you open the door.

Cheers,

Simon.

I had a similar problem of not being able to power sat nav from lighter..... 92 Griff

I didn't bother investigating it, just did not bother with sat nav and used my own sense of direction.

On one london tunnel run along the Thames I ended up at Kings Cross hehe

Thanks for the replies, I think the accessory plug theory for different sizes of sockets is probably right as the insert is red and appears to be designed to suit the socket.
