Finally got round to wiring the accumate into the car today, found these two wires with tapped up spade connectors behind the fuel filler neck, they are part of the main boot loom, any ideas what they are/were for?

On the 500's isnt there a breather valve that is powered behind the tank, I think it vents to the carbon thingymajig.
Maybe someone has disconnected it for some reason.

Were they disconnected on yours?

Will have a look for the tank vent.

They look like the 2 wires that go to the petrol tank float assembly

I have the same 2 wires on my 500. They don't appear to be for anything.

Fuel gauge sender is black/green according to the bible. There's another spare pair on the R/H side too, no mention of them on the wiring diagram either.

Could they be for an optional aerial?

Every car I've ever owned has had spare wires floating about in it!

They go straight into the wrapped factory loom so not an add on, will stick a meter on them tonight.
