Hi all,can someone tell me how many wires the later caerbont gauge(ali bezels) speedo transducer has, please?I seem to have a 3 wire sender, but thought they normally only had 2 wires? Also,do both wires go directly to the speedo on the later cars,or do they go into a little black box or somesuch, first?Cheers,Mike

Mike, I have been fitting some later clocks to a car today.
On the speedo there was 3 wires(not sure of their role) and as you say there is a black magic box.

Cheers Ant,i have three wires on the back of the speedo, but i assumed(probably wrongly),that one might be unconnected as far as the sender goes, and that the sender should only have two wires?

Must admit Mike, I have only messed with my Stewart warner precat clocks before.
Thought the AJP would have those too, but then again,I guess it must have a T5 huh..

Have you got the black control box?
I can try and get the box part number on Monday if you like.Or get some pics.

It's a VR sensor on mine, so 2 wires on the sender. There are 3 wires going to the speedo - power, ground and signal.

There is a little black box, but as far as the speedo is concerned, the signal just passes through unchanged, so it can be ignored. You may have to short the correct wires behind the dash together if you want to remove the black box.

Cheers matesmile, the car did have the Stewart.Warner type to begin with, then finished up with the Caerbont type. The thing is,i have to guess as to whats going on!If the caerbont type usually use a 2 wire type sender, then i imagine the 3 wire that i have was used at the diff trigger wheel to replicate the signal from the original Rover gearbox sender?Did the rover gearbox have 3 wire senders? Then i'm imagining that they still used the 3 wire sender and adapted it for the caerbont gauges? Its all supposition thats for sure,i also have a few black boxes behind the dash, but havent a clue whats going on yet!!!If i can establish that maybe the Rover box sender has 3 wires, and the sender used at the diff for the caerbont gauges has only 2 wires, then that will be a starting pointsmile(i'm probaly completely wrong though, and it will be 'back to the drawing board)

Cheers Dave/BB,Cant really see why the car should need a 3 wire oneconfused.looks like i'll be better off getting a 2 wire sender i reckon.Just need to find out its origin now!
