Fuel gauge sender unit refurb
Discussion
It had to happen didn't it, after being stripping the car down to more parts than I care to remember, the fuel gauge sender is one thing that hasnt come back to life properly.
Can these be refurbed? It is obviously some kind of winding so can they be re-done?
I have used something to catch the float and rod via the filler and the gauge reads when I lift the float and goes back to zero when I let it go, despite the tank being 3/4 full.
Do modern cars have something more reliable?
Correction, after looking at my old one,(which also failed) it is a printed track not a winding...

A bit late, but if the gauge works when you hook the arm up isn't the sender fine? Isn't it more likely the float's not floating? I ask because my gauge went west on a driver training day. When I lift the arm nothing registers so I'm about to replace the sender, but had it worked I'd've replaced the float.

BB, didnt manage to get pics of the replacement.
But I do now know that its not quite the same as an S version.
The actual circuit board end is the same , but you have to swap the rod and float from old to new one.
It is not a tank out job on the precat, well not for me !
No worries Ant, tisnt a tank out Job on the 500's either But I do now know that its not quite the same as an S version.

Ian, that shows the main problem with the sender "track", they wear out in some areas, so your gauge works, then doesnt, then does, then doesnt.Dont you just love TVR !
