As many of you may recall, I had Gerry Marshall’s non official BV from about 94 through to about a year and a half ago when I bought a T350.

Now, the T350 is fantastic and I honestly prefer it to the Griff as it is a much more usuable car for me.

However, I find myself in the situation where I am contemplating having a silly car in Italy that will only be used once in a while and there is truly only one possible vehicle that a sane (!!) individual could ever contemplate keeping in the garage in a foreign country.

Now, my old Griff didn’t seem to suffer from any of the problems that others of that era did. In fact it was absolutely bullet proof until I decided to pay good money to have people start ‘improving it’. From that point on silly things which had been fettled with by professionals started causing problems and I became fed up. Other than that, the things that did go wrong were due to standard age and fatigue and a good mechanic could help fix/replace.

My assumption is that it probably makes sense to try and find one of the last 100, with aircon, un-fettled and in as light a colour as possible due to the high temperatures it will be living with.

I know that mine would have been a shocker in 40 degrees life as it had no aircon, no power steering and bellowed out more heat than a fat bird on a treadmill.

Does anyone have experience of younger Griffs in hot climes?

Plus, how often do the last ones appear for sale?

Aha, just couldn't keep away eh Horse Apple. Nice to have you back.

The SE's come up for sale more often than you might think. Its the only car I'd change my pre-cat for so I sort of keep an eye open for them.

You're old BV is in safe hands, about a mile from us, see Andy every now and again - he'd got some exhaust gasket issue last time I saw him, sounded well loud.

Great to hear it is still in good hands.

As much as the T350 is on paper a better car, I have to be honest and say the Griff will always be better as a product. infintitely more emotive.

Let Andy know that you had to regularly tighten the rear near side bolt on the car as otherwise it works its way lose and then starts sounding like a tractor while turning the interior into a Belsen shed.

I suspect that there is no louder Griff around. The noise if you lifted off from high revs in first or 2nd was just shattering.

Say hello from me when you next see him.

Hi Barreti,

I was looking at this one in the classifieds this morning.

Just need to get a feel as to how they will cope with stinking hot weather.
