Griff 500, Wonky exhaust
Discussion
It may be a little thing, but its beginning to bug me. My exhaust is slightly wonky to the left, the left pipe sits lower. It just doesn't seem to sit nicely under the body then others i've seen. The exhaust has been the middle box opened and sleeved. Has this caused the wonky sitting and is there anything I can do to straighten it. I see a little bracket at the rear which raises and lowers the tail pipes but I need to twist it slightly. Can this be done on the middle box mounting bolts. Three of them I think!! Anyone else have this problem and solved the issue.

The exhaust can be tweaked using the bolts attaching the silencer to the flat mounting plate which in turn bolts to both chassis rails at the back of the car.
You have a number of bolts - can't remember how many now. Some attach the exhaust to the plate and some the plate to the chassis.
Firstly, undo the U clamp holding the Y piece to the exhaust at the front by the sump and flexi bit.
Now undo the bolts attaching the exhaust to the plate and if the exhaust mounting rubbers are in good nick, they will uncompress and push the exhaust up. If they are knackered you will get no effect from undoing the bolts though.
Obviously you can pull the exhaust down by tightening the bolts too.
Clever Trevor have the rubbers if you need them - and oddly you will need a pair per bolt.

No,No,NO!
Brute force will only have a short term effect unfortunately.
The exhaust box mounting to the plate is what needs to be adjusted. To do this, it's best to start off with a new set of rubbers for each of the three mounting points, these can be cheaply obtained from Clevor trevor(above). You now just need to ascertain which side of the box needs to be lowered/raised, then simply just place either a washer, or one of the old rubber mounts under the low side. Can get a bit tight fitting it all back, and is probably better done on a ramp.
Voila!
A nice symetrical back box that wont return to wonky, with vibration and heat!

Yep fraid so Moorcroft,
Austech actually told me to use brute force, until they split my flexi section demoing this very method on my car!! lots of red faces!!
FYI, don't do the exhaust mounting bolts up too tight either, it'll help raise the flexi section for a bit more ground clearance, as well as preserving the rubber mounts that bit longer.
