Hi All,

Just a quick question...... My Griff seems to run very rich.

I checked the tune resistor was correct the other day and the one installed is correct but the resistance could not be measures across the pins stated in the bible. Are there any diagrams about telling me which pins are which on a 95 500?

Secondly how many miles should I be getting out of a tank driven (gently) round town? 150 seems a little silly!

Lastly any other checks I should do as I am running out of ideas?

Thanks in advance

Graham

Can't help on PIN numbers but if you search on here there is a lot of info with links and some of the guys are very clued up.

As for mileage you should be seeing 200ish depending on driving etc . .

150 is way too low, I would check all engine bay electrical connections particularly the AFM as this can have a reall affect on mixture.

Also check stepper and ECU coolant temp sensor range . .

Seem to think the tune resisitor is on theambda circuit and don't they only input over 3k - you see I'm struggling hehe

I would check the AFM - when these go they seem to make the car run rich (using loads of fuel) ..

There are some great tips on Blitzracing's site here..

http://www.g33.co.uk/fuel_injection.htm
and here
http://www.peter.beech1.btinternet.co.uk/TVR/injpr...

There's also this diagram on Phil's Megasquirt site which is useful (just ignore the Megasquirt plug)

Mine was running rich because there was a break between the lamda sensor earth and the corresponding ECU pin. Worth checking..

cheers

Thanks, I suspect AFM as they cost a bit! Interesting about the Lambda Sensors as they seem to not have the correct conector on mine and someone has soldered the wires onto the old connectors wires and heat srunk them?

any other sudgestions and experiences would be great.

I forgot to mention the reason I am checking for problems is because when sitting in trafic for a while the car does not like to idle.

Thanks again

Your question suggests that the car has done this since you got it.

Is that right or has something changed?

Is it all standard, or has it been modified?

Yes it has been running rich since I bought it but I have had It off the road for 4 of the 6 months ownership to compleatly rebuild the suspension, steering, brakes, New Rad and cooling pipes...... Ect.

The engine is standard..

I have the day off today and so far I have probed all sensors to the ecu AFM is within tolerance But One Lambda is consantly giving low voltage!! This will make it run rich. Have orderd a new pair as I do not want the bodged ones anyware near my car.

Once I have fitted these I will then recheck as the sensor could be right but I doubt it as all other sensors gave me good readings.

Thanks to you all again

Swap the lambda sensors over (leave everything else the same) and see whether the symptoms stay or move with the sensor. This will tell you whether it's the sensor accurately reporting a problem on that bank, or a duff sensor.

PS My mistake on the tune resistor, the pin diagram from the bible is from the back of the plug is was measuring from the front.

Should not have doubted the word of god!

Just pulled the Lambda plugs out and the suspect one is missing the top, so I would guess that that is a problem!!!

Fine but what has caused this? It had a missfire when I bought it due to a plug extention tracking out they are all changed now and a new set of leads.

What else could damage Oxygen sensors so much? They cost a few bob so dont just want to stick them in and destroy another set.

Thanks

I had exact same problem, mine was caused by the precat flying past Lambda probe after a fast run shearing the probe tip off, pulled up to a junction only to find the idle very irratic and exhaust very eggy(overfueling)i removed both manifolds to find the O/S pre/cat sitting on the maincat matrix(the dustbin)and decided to hack the other pre/cat out and have never looked back since.
