I have a spare Y section for a Griff 500, and I was planning to de-cat it to help with heat issues that I have suffered from since I have had the car.

I have picked up from other threads that some people advise that a cone is inserted once the cat is removed. is this generally recommended, and if so, what are the best dimensions?

Thanks

`Non-reversal cones are sometimes fitted into the manifolds after removing the pre-cats, not the main cat in the Y piece.

Your best bet, if the main cat is working properly would be to buy a purpose made decat Y piece. Then you still have a good cat if you ever need the cat for MOT. Also a working cat has second hand value.

Thanks for your advice. The spare Y section I have has a shot cat, having just replaced it with a low mileage to get through the MOT.

However, from what you suggest I will look into a purpose made decat pipe.

Thanks again

I also tried doing the cheaper option of removing the pre cats and main cat, whilst still retaining the original 500 'Y' piece.

The car sounded bl**dy awful, due to the 'big tin can' left by the main cat, it's definitely worth investing in a proper decat setup from the likes of JP Exhausts

You wont regret it!!!
(mine's fully decatted, with a 'sports' exhaust mod as well, and I can honestly say that I don't find it's too loud even on long runs etc)
