fuse board wiring cooling fans
Discussion
Supply to one fan dead.
Some one has joined one feed to supply both fans due to fault
Fan relay melted to fuse board
Fitted new relay fans work OK
I now want to find out why one feed is dead
Removed fuse board.
Wiring at fans both feeds pink/earth black.
Behind fuse board two pink wires go to same point on brown coloured multi block second block on board one wire of these two slightly thinner.
There is another pink wire going to the third multiblock which is yellow .
I have one relay for cooling fan operation.do both feeds for fan come from the pair of pinks in brown block or is the single pink a feed to one fan.
I will check continuity tonight.
sinle 40 amp fuse which did not blow when relay melted.
Has the joining of one feed to power both fans caused relay issue
all views much appreciated

The precats have only one relay, but then as standard I've got a feeling they had only one fan. Certainly I've read that some cars have two fans fed from one relay. Maybe later 500s had two fans and two relays - I don't know. I'd certainly go with a fan per relay though. The fans draw a lot of current and two fans will kill one relay in time.
The 500's had just one relay/fuse up until '98/99ish,i beleive. The best thing you can do whilst your in there is split them up into two seperate circuits, and put a 30A relay and 25A fuse on each, which is what the later cars had.I had a single relay melt on my Chim and it caught fire whilst driving, melting the battery and heaterbox, and causing £1400 damage a few years ago.The dealer told me that such scenario's were not unheard of on the earlier cars with the single circuit! For something that only costs a couple of pounds to do,it's mad not to,i feel.

The car is a 1995 Griff serpentine
Thanks for info so far
My thoughts are one relay to each fan
But is this possible using original fuseboard
thanks all
On my late '96 griff it was possible to use the spare relay space that was there, but i wouldn't guarantee yours will be the same as there are a few wiring variations, apparently. You can always buy a relay holder from the likes of Vehicle wiring products or similar, then just wire it up placing the new relar near the existing board. Thanks for info so far
