38 Extra horses !!!!
Discussion
Well, actually more like i’ve found them again

Car has been feeling as though it’s been missing some of its grunt for a while. I had to visit Carl Baker for some alarm work (Excellent service & work done by Carl
Tks) so decided i’d have a Surrey Rolling road session on the way home. I’ve had good figures on Charlies road at the Griff RR day so thought this would be ideal for comparison.
As you can see from the sheets below its well down on power & massively under fueling

clip of the RR session (pity i didn’t get Chaz trying to find the door release !!
Bloody Chimp owners
)
After speaking with Rob @ V8D we decided to try the AFM or if it wasn’t that, get the fuel pressure up.
I decided to try Torque Developments International at Thurrock which is reasonably close to me. Did a run on their very impressive hub dyno with the same somewhat expected & disappointing figures. The guys there agreed AFM should be the 1st target. So plugged a new one in that i’d borrowed (now bought
) from Colin & Dave SCPower (thanks guys
)
You can see the before & after chart below red & black bhp/torque before AFM, blue & orange after

clip of the Hub Dyno run
i cant load up the other clip i have for some reason which shows them shutting the dyno doors not wanting to upset the neighbours
TDI still think the fueling isn’t perfect and i’m thinking (only thinking at the moment) about about loosing the Dizzy/AFM

If i do decide to go this route they will certainly be one of the people i consider for this work, as i found them very very helpful & knowledgeable. They don’t specialise in TVR’s but i think i might look at changing that
TDI also checked the airflow north side of the AFM & reckon that its restricted, i now have a K&N filter to go on today, maybe a couple more Ponies now
Thanks Tim ACT
Numbers are (ATW)
Pre AFM
225.3 bhp 4540rpm
296.3 lb-ft 3020rpm
With new AFM
263.7 bhp 5080rpm
308.0 lb-ft 3350rpm
I’m guessing fly figures approx 320/325bhp & 375/380 lb-ft To say i’m as happy as the proverbial pig in s
t is an understatement
Thanks again to all that helped out
ETA: Ooops.... Wrong forum
could a mod move to the Griff forum pls ? These Chimp boys wont like looking at Power figures

Anyway have a few more of these

Nick, you drove it when it wasn't 100%

Just got for it and fit the Emerald !!!!! bye bye dizzy !!
Funds don't allow atm & I don't think Emerald would my 1st choice..Also with the power it has at the moment and how usable it is i wonder about the gain.
Definitely will be doing lots of research & talking (unlucky guys
) before i do make any decision
I give the Emerald another vote... Everyone had some problems getting them going, but IIRC all were minor wiring faults. Since its been up and running, my Emerald has performed faultlessly and has proved a great bit of kit. Loads of great features such as map switching, datalogging, adaptive mapping to name a few.
Mine wasn't a problem to get running at all really, certainly no fault of the wiring or the ECu. It was anothyer eratic and errant part
I however had a real pro and gent build me a loom to a spec we worked on a bit which BB and I use.
Honestly Del, the difference is night and day, although a very well mapped 14cux will give good results.
MOT is fecking hard work, even after CAT back in to get through with mine, but car's will vary.
The ability to adjust and have a look at what's happening is a real boon.
Changed the throttle cable yesterday and went back through checking on bits after re-setting TP settings having noticed butterfly not totally flat on full throttle with a good mate who runs his 4.3BV wedge on Motec from several years ago and he was totally impressed with the interface and the functionality.
Bare in mind power claims as I did the following mods to mine when I was installing the new loom and ecu so it's not back to back, and my engine was re-built by Ray at V8D a couple of years ago and was properly balanced etc running a MA chip.
Bosch 310cc red topd with 3bar fuel regulator.
72mm throttle
No other engine mods except a JE trigger wheel and new race front damper.
317bhp & 327lbsft - corrected, add 15% or so for flywheel fig's.
This is running with crap air temp corrections with the air temp sensor where the AFM was which is useless (being moved into airbox over winter).
I'm still getting too much air through the breather system currently so can't get a good idle set up - or at least one I am happy with.
But the difference is driveability and outright performance is very noticeable.
Twin fan control with no additional wiring (Nigels will be the same) subtle 3 LED shiftlight hidden in steering column cowl (BB has a speedo with S/L so his is in there) and a tell tale on the second fan.
In addition it also runs the carbon cannister so no mucking about there.
I'm also running wideband but don't trust the readings and will be looking at adaptive mappinmg this winter ahead of high alps hooning next year
I run P38 coil packs so I have a super clean engine bay with minimal wiring in it and none of the HT criss crossing the engine bay you get with some set ups. Very personal choice but quick and easy to install and cheap.
ECU located above glove box with minimal loom in footwell with map switch and lambda calibration also hidden in glove box aperture.
It can be done many ways, come and have a good nose round at the Growl and we can have a chat.
Sure by the time you sell the bits you don't need any of the KMS, Omex, Emerald options will be cheaper than you think.

It might not have been 100% but it was still
to be in a Griff again.
Mind you, did back to back test drives with a Griff & another Tiv today...which was nice

Believe me the difference is amazing

i cant believe i hadn't noticed !!!You better not be going all H*** on us

Try & stop me
I think you know mine was previously breathed on at V8D as well

Yup, but no idea what the emissions were as the mot tester was kind to me... I expect mine would fail miserably though as it is decatted and runs a map which takes no notice of emissions... Running cats and adaptive mapping though I can't see how it wouldn't pass?
Its not that simple, as you still have to sweep rich /lean the mixture around lambda 1 to keep the cat working correctly. It runs lean for a moment to allow enough excess oxygen to get to the cats to burn of the excess pollutants, before cycling rich again to give you more power. This is why if you look at the lambda trace of any catalyst car, its constantly swinging high /low, and does not rest at lambda 1. Someone has already said that the emarald does not have this facility, as its primarily designed for race use. It would bother me if I spent all that time and effort fitting one only to fail an MOT, and have no way of fixing it !! Mark

The other thing is that cats (as far as I'm aware) don't mind richer mixtures .. they have to cope with richer mixtures for running under load and if it was an issue then cats would fail very quickly. Are you sure the info you received about the Lucas cycling within fixed known limits is correct even?
